Οι άθεοι και οι εβραίοι είναι πιο διαβασμένοι

Έρευνα του ανεξάρτητου Φόρουμ για τη Θρησκεία και την Δημόσια Ζωή στις ΗΠΑ έκανε 32 ερωτήσεις σε 3.400 ανθρώπους, βγαλμένες από τη Βίβλο, το Κοράνι και άλλες θρησκείες. Ποιοι απάντησαν σωστά; Οι άθεοι και οι εβραίοι...

Κατά μέσο όρο, οι ερωτηθέντες απάντησαν σωστά στις μισές ερωτήσεις, αλλά το αξιοπερίεργο ήταν ότι αυτοί που είχαν τις περισσότερες σωστές απαντήσεις ήταν οι άθεοι και οι αγνωστικιστές και ακολούθησαν οι Εβραίοι και οι Μορμόνοι!

Μάλιστα, τα αποτελέσματα ήταν τα ίδια, ακόμα και όταν οι ερευνητές χώρισαν τους ερωτηθέντες σε ηλικίες.

Για τους περισσότερους από εμάς, τα αποτελέσματα μπορεί να ξαφνιάζουν, όμως για τον πρόεδρο των Αμερικανών Αθεϊστών, Ντέιβιντ Σίλβερμαν, πρόκειται για κάτι που ισχύει έτσι κι αλλιώς:

«Ο αθεϊσμός είναι αποτέλεσμα της πλήρους γνώσης και κατανόησης της χριστιανικής θρησκείας και όχι της απλής άρνησης στο Θεό. Έχω δώσει τη Βίβλο στην κόρη μου να τη διαβάσει. Έτσι γίνονται άθεοι οι άνθρωποι. Διαβάζουν τη Βίβλο», σχολίασε ο Σίλβερμαν στους New York Times.

Οι ερωτήσεις ήταν κατά κύριο λόγο κλειστού τύπου και ενδεικτικά αναφέρονται μερικές ερωτήσεις:

1.Που γεννήθηκε ο Ιησούς;

2.Ποιος απαρνήθηκε τρεις φορές τον Ιησού;

3.Ποιος συνέταξε τις 10 εντολές;

4.Τι θρησκεία είναι ο Δαλάι Λάμα;

5.Τι είναι το Ραμαζάνι;

Μέλη της έρευνας αναφέρουν ότι το 45% των ερωτηθέντων που δήλωσαν Καθολικοί δεν ήξεραν ότι στη Θεία Κοινωνία το Κρασί και το Ψωμί συμβολίζει το Αίμα και το Σώμα του Χριστού ενώ το 53% των Προτεσταντών δεν ήξερε πως ο Λούθηρος ήταν ο “ιδρυτής” του Προτεσταντισμού!

Atheists, Jews most informed about world's faiths Christians in the United States are less knowledgeable about the world's religions than are non-believers and practitioners of other faiths, according to a poll published Tuesday. The survey, which tested respondents' knowledge of the tenets, histories and leading figures of major religions, found that atheists and agnostics scored highest, followed by Jews and Mormons. Performing less well were evangelical Protestants, mainline Protestants and Catholics -- who combined form a large majority of Americans -- according to the survey by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. The poll found that Americans overall correctly answered only half of the 32 religious knowledge questions on the survey. Pew determined, among other findings, that fewer than half of Americans (47 percent) knew that the Dalai Lama is Buddhist, and only about one respondent in four (27 percent) knew that most people in Indonesia are Muslims. There were also substantive gaps in Americans' knowledge about the Bible. Just seven in 10 respondents (71 percent) knew that Jesus, according to the Christian holy book, was born in Bethlehem. Slightly more than than six in 10 (63 percent) meanwhile, were able to correctly name Genesis as the first book of the Bible. Atheists and agnostics outperformed the national average, scoring 20.9 correct answers, while Jews and Mormons did nearly as well, with 20.5 and 20.3 correct answers, respectively. But Christians tended to lag overall, with Protestants scoring on average of just 16 correct answers and Catholics 14.7. The survey found that Jews, atheists and agnostics scored especially well on questions related to Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism, and that Jews, atheists and agnostics excelled on questions about the role of faith in public life, such as what the US Constitution says about religion. Mormons and white evangelical Protestants, meanwhile, were most knowledgeable about Christianity, including questions about the Bible. The nationwide poll was conducted from May 19 through June 6, and surveyed 3,412 adults.
